Smart laundry is gaining ground

21%

of washing-machine volume sales across 46 select markets were smart models in 2024, up from 16% in 2020.

Adoption is accelerating in leading markets

6 markets

had smart washing machines accounting for roughly 40% or more of annual volume sales in 2024: South Korea, the U.S., Taiwan, Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

Smarter cycles can use fewer resources

~20%

water savings per cycle are claimed by some sensor-driven systems that adapt water use to each load.

A Connected Laundry Ecosystem

“AI shouldn’t make laundry more complicated. Its job is to quietly remove the guesswork so consumers can trust the machine to do the right thing.”

What Role Could AI Play?

The Laundry Lens

Laundry is shifting from product performance to system performance. As laundry technologies become more connected, manufacturers will need to understand how chemistry, appliances and digital intelligence affect one another. Appliances increasingly help set the conditions for cleaning by managing water, dosing and cycle selection. Yet newer machines do not automatically lead consumers to use advanced cycles; most still rely on the Standard or Automatic setting. The opportunity is to build intelligence into the default experience, helping the system deliver better performance and resource efficiency without requiring more effort from consumers.
