When she returned to her home country of Singapore to join IFF\u2019s Asia-Pacific Grain Processing group, she spent a decade serving regional Grain Processing customers through different roles from marketing to project management and sales.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A key highlight? Combining her deep local knowledge with IFF\u2019s global resources, Rachel created the XCELIS\u00ae Ethanol Performance Program, which sent her team to producers throughout the region to conduct baseline assessments, identify opportunities for improvement, and create paths for their development.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rachel shares her biggest learning that set the foundation for her approach to new business development today. \u201cCustomer pain points may sound broadly similar, yet there are so many important nuances to consider in applying our solutions to properly address each customer\u2019s needs. The only way is to meet our customers where they are, and to listen.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While US and India ethanol producers seek higher ethanol and oil yield, for example, each calls for a different solution given vastly different conditions\u2014from the quality and price of corn to the process intensity. All that must be factored into the choice of enzyme system to complement their existing baseline, maximize yield and maintain profitability.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><strong>The world needs more low-carbon, low chemical use, and water-efficient solutions that enhance the value of all output streams, and to cut waste.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1276\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Rachel-Leong-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-36596\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Rachel-Leong-2.jpg 1276w, https:\/\/www.iff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Rachel-Leong-2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.iff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Rachel-Leong-2-1024x578.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.iff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Rachel-Leong-2-768x433.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.iff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Rachel-Leong-2-400x226.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.iff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Rachel-Leong-2-200x113.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1276px) 100vw, 1276px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This passion for complex problem solving eventually led Rachel to new business development, where she dives into challenges beyond ethanol and carbohydrate processing. \u201cThe world needs more low-carbon, low chemical use, and water-efficient solutions that enhance the value of all output streams, and to cut waste,\u201d she explains. \u201cAs biocatalysts, enzymes are key, especially in agriculture processing.\u00a0That\u2019s why I\u2019m exploring ways to apply our biotechnology products and know-how into new white spaces across the agriculture value chain.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But enzymes are just part of the puzzle. Rachel\u2019s driven to innovate for a better tomorrow with other like-minded co-workers and partners.\u00a0Expanding on why she prizes collaboration with trusted partners, she says, \u201cWe need a systems approach across a plant\u2019s full process, and across the value chain from raw material to final product.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From a customer with production know-how to an engineering company with process design expertise, Rachel strongly believes that each partner brings a different expertise to the table. \u201cClose collaboration is the only way we can collectively reach a truly optimal, practical solution,\u201d she concludes.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rachel Leong got to know the cornfields of the American Midwest while earning dual degrees in chemical engineering and economics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
