But after working for more than 15 years as a chemical engineer in Argentina&#8217;s wet milling plants, producing sweeteners, starches, and corn oil, he was ready to take on new challenges\u2014and ethanol offered exciting new opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Research and development in this industry is really growing, as we try to get as much as possible from the corn to convert to ethanol,&#8221; Sebasti\u00e1n notes. &#8220;My challenge is to understand where producers have opportunities to improve their processes.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1253\" height=\"937\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/XCELIS-Talk-03.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-46747\" style=\"width:841px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/XCELIS-Talk-03.jpg 1253w, https:\/\/www.iff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/XCELIS-Talk-03-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.iff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/XCELIS-Talk-03-1024x766.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.iff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/XCELIS-Talk-03-768x574.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.iff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/XCELIS-Talk-03-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.iff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/XCELIS-Talk-03-200x150.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1253px) 100vw, 1253px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Joining IFF in 2014 gave him the opportunity to take on that challenge from the ground up, and see the progress up close. He&#8217;s responsible for introducing new products to his customers, including educating them about the latest offerings and how best to implement them. A typical week might take him from looking closely at one plant&#8217;s processes, which can be very different from others, to working with IFF&#8217;s lab analysts to craft a solution that meets that customer&#8217;s specific needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WE&#8217;RE NOT JUST TRYING TO SELL OUR CUSTOMERS A PRODUCT. WE&#8217;RE WORKING TO CREATE THE ENERGY THEY NEED TO JUMP AHEAD INTO THE FUTURE.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, when a customer had a problem with their fermentation process, it took careful investigation to identify the issue, and some trial and error in the lab and at the plant to develop the solution: a carefully calibrated dosage of protease that resulted in higher yields and faster fermentation rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Developing that kind of tailored solution means making connections\u2014inside and out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I try to grow our relationships with the ethanol producers as well as with our entire organization,&#8221; he says. &#8220;Building strong relationships helps me understand the real needs of our customers, and everything we have to offer them.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And it&#8217;s through those relationships that he&#8217;s come to understand\u2014and live\u2014the XCELIS\u2122 promise in a powerful way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Sometimes, I think our customers get stuck at a plateau where they&#8217;re not able to make improvements,&#8221; he explains. &#8220;&#8216;Fueling you forward&#8217; describes how we&#8217;re continually helping them find a way out of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Because we&#8217;re not just trying to sell our customers a product.
