The aim is to provide the industry with a new way to obtain oxo-chemicals without using raw materials derived from fossil fuels.<\/p>\n<p>IFF is one of three industrial partners that represent potential end-users of\u00a0this\u00a0technology which would lead to a reduction in our CO2\u00a0emissions energy consumption water usage and dependence on fossil-derived feedstocks.\u00a0We are\u00a0providing a test-site environment for the case study products\u00a0in order to\u00a0ensure the scalability and feasibility of the process for the fragrance industry.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Multistr3am\"><\/span>Multistr3am<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Microalgae\u00a0has the unique ability to convert atmospheric CO2\u00a0into highly sustainable building blocks of biomass.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbi-europe.eu\/projects\/multistr3am\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Multistr3am\u00a0<\/a>is working\u00a0to overcome existing barriers to using microalgae by bringing down the costs of cultivation harvesting and downstream processing using a new kind of biorefinery to create high-quality in-demand products at scale.<\/p>\n<p>Through this collaboration with several industry partners IFF\u00a0is\u00a0helping to\u00a0validate whether algae materials can be successfully converted to high-quality building blocks for micro-encapsulation and fragrance ingredients thereby displacing fossil fuels. Additionally\u00a0select\u00a0waste streams\u00a0have the potential to\u00a0be repurposed as feed stocks for algae cultivation building the way to a more circular economy.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Plenitude\"><\/span>Plenitude<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.plenitude-bbi.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Plenitude<\/a>\u00a0aims to increase the availability of sustainable meat-alternative food-grade protein by building a first-of-its-kind bio-based value chain. The unique zero-waste process couples an aerobic fermentation plant (to produce a food-grade protein) with a conventional bioethanol refinery\u00a0that uses sustainable inputs.\u00a0Plenitude\u00a0has the potential to deliver savings equivalent to ~5\u00a0tonnes\u00a0of CO2e emissions for every\u00a0tonne\u00a0of mycoprotein consumed (~82% CO2\u00a0reduction compared to meat protein).<\/p>\n<p>IFF\u2019s\u00a0role is to perform consumer and market studies of new protein sources as meat alternatives.
