Starting from a coastal location in Norway, the visitor passes through increasingly polluted cells, from dry and cold locations to hot and humid. Pollution Pods has been commissioned by NTNU as part of Climart a four-year research project that examines the underlying psychological mechanisms involved in both the production and reception of visual art using these findings in an attempt to unite the natural sciences to the visual arts. Each pod represents a city and each takes visitors into a simulation of the pollution of five major cities via scent temperature and humidity complete with an olfactory experience crafted by an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iff.com\/es\/scent\/media\/\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"75\">IFF perfumer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Aligned with IFF\u2019s commitment to sustainability it was not only an opportunity to build a bridge between art and science to help safeguard life on our planet but also an exciting way to push the boundaries of what is possible as pioneers of the senses. Each perfumer has a personal connection to the locations represented by the pods and they combined their local expertise with our proprietary palette of ingredients &amp; technologies to create a realistic and vivid simulation of the air quality.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Discover Clean Air by Nelly Hachem-Ruiz<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18596 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/nelly-hachem-ruiz.jpg\" alt=\"Nelly Hachem-Ruiz\" width=\"956\" height=\"631\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/nelly-hachem-ruiz.jpg 956w, https:\/\/www.iff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/nelly-hachem-ruiz-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.iff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/nelly-hachem-ruiz-768x507.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.iff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/nelly-hachem-ruiz-400x264.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.iff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/nelly-hachem-ruiz-200x132.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 956px) 100vw, 956px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As a point of contrast between the cities one dome offers clean air based on the scentscape of Norway\u2019s pine forests. Nelly Hachem-Ruiz a Perfumer based in France used a material called Koavone which in a high dose offers an exhilarating and diffusive pine scent. A cooling effect came through the addition of Cristalfizz and Menthol. The essence of pine needle gives the naturality and the strength to the scent that reminds us the immensity (infinity) of the forest.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what Nelly shared:<\/p>\n<p><em>I imagined the experience of taking a walk in the amazing cold nature of the Norway landscape surrounded by a forest of pine trees.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I made a cold pure piney fresh smell with few simple ingredients that could transport me back to this experience I had imagined.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Exhibits such as Pollution Pods help bring climate change to the forefront and enables us to be more conscious about our environment.
