Dr. John Gannon — Using Environmental Fate and Microbiome Expertise to Address Microplastics

I look at the biggest environmental issue the world faces as the microplastics threat. This is a concern because it has very significant health and environmental effects.

For Dr. John Gannon, PhD, science isn’t abstract — it’s a mission.

Based in Wilmington, USA, John is a Senior Technical Fellow who started and led the DuPont Environmental Fate and DuPont / IFF Microbiome competencies. With a background spanning microbiology, environmental chemistry, and computational science, he brings together disciplines to confront one of today’s most pressing challenges.

John’s roots in environmental innovation run deep. “In my earlier days at DuPont, we came up with a lot of innovation — areas where we led the world in how to address environmental issues,” he reflects.

Now, his focus is on the microbiome — using microorganisms to power sustainability from the inside out. “We’re using microorganisms to find solutions to real-world problems,” John says. “And this is something that clearly makes a big difference in the world.”

We’re truly working in the sustainability space,” that’s what drives me — science that solves..”
