Omni-Bos™ PHY

A novel enzyme to improve nutrient utilization in dairy cattle

Modern dairy cattle diets rely on high levels of concentrates and rumen-protected protein sources to support milk production. While these components of the diet are rich in nutrients, their utilization remains limited because a proportion is bound to phytate, making them not available for absorption. Omni-Bos™ PHY is a ruminant specific phytase enzyme that becomes active in the abomasum, where it breaks down phytate to unlock valuable nutrients such as protein, amino acids, calcium and other minerals.

Key Benefits

  • Better nutrient digestibility: get more from dry matter, protein and fiber
  • Increased milk production: Improved returns
  • More milk protein: Higher milk solids yield
  • Improved sustainability: increased nutrient use efficiency

The challenge: nutrient availability, not nutrient supply

Under modern feeding conditions, which include higher intake, faster passage rates and increased use of rumen protected feeds, phytate breakdown in the rumen is often incomplete. As a result, a portion of dietary protein, amino acids, calcium and other minerals can be bound to phytate and remain unavailable post-ruminally, limiting digestibility and preventing the animals from reaching their full potential.

How Omni-Bos™ PHY works

Omni-Bos™ PHY is designed to become highly active in the acidic environment of the abomasum, where it releases phytate-bound nutrients that would otherwise remain unavailable for absorption in the small intestine. Substantiated by extensive research, Omni-Bos™ PHY helps herds perform more efficiently by improving nutrient digestibility and milk production.
