GENENCARE XL Xylitol microbiome diversity

GENENCARE® XL helps maintain microbiome diversity

According to an in-vitro test measuring strains grown in culture media in the presence of GENENCARE® XL Xylitol or control, GENENCARE® XL helps to maintain microbiome diversity when added in the early growth phase.

Why should you include GENENCARE® XL in your formulation?

GENENCARE® XL is a natural-derived# xylitol that supports microbiome profile of skin and helps provide moisturization. Derived from wood and sourced from a paper production side stream.

Prebiotic

GENENCARE® XL stimulates lactate production by Staph epidermidis. 2,3
Lactate, a key component of the Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF), plays a crucial role in maintaining skin hydration and supporting the skin’s physiological pH. Additionally, GENENCARE® XL helps preserve the diversity of the skin’s microbiome, promoting overall skin health.

Moisturization

A clinical test on 43 volunteers showed that GENENCARE® XL contributes to increase skin moisturization for 8 hours and up to +19% after 2 hours (corneometry). GENENCARE® XL is not only a strong humectant but also contributes to reinforce the epidermal barrier by increasing lipid fluidity and faster exocytosis of lamellar bodies (Umino et al, 2019).

GENENCARE XL Xylitol Intimate Care

Intimate Care

Lactobacillus spp. and Staph. epidermidis were identified as the dominant species in the vulvovaginal area. The common vaginal microbiome, the Lactobacilli species, produces lactic acid and bacteriocins to kill other bacteria in the vagina. If these normal florae such as Lactobacilli are absent or significantly reduced, the vaginal ecosystem may become imbalanced, leading to infections.

Xylitol stimulates lactate production by Staph. epidermis and helps to increase the antifungal activity of lactic acid bacteria 4.

The integration of xylitol production with a pulp and paper plant takes advantage of the high carbohydrate content of the side stream and utilizes this waste stream as feedstock. The xylose in this feedstock is already in a hydrolyzed form, and there is consequently no use of acid for hydrolysis. Once xylose is extracted, the remaining side stream with reduced xylose content and reduced energy value is returned to the pulp and paper plant for energy production.
