The Science of Osmolytes

Osmolytes are small organic molecules that naturally occur in the cells of living organisms to help them survive environmental stress.

Betaine and inositol are major osmolytes present in the epidermal layers of the skin. These osmolytes play an active role in the skin water balance and help protect skin cells from dehydration.

Osmolytes are key to osmoprotection

We have tapped into this hidden power of nature with GENENCARE® OSMS, a range of natural^# bioactives, to protect skin cells from hydric stress and stabilize and protect proteins from denaturation.

When the skin is dry, keratinocytes respond by increasing production of osmolyte transporters on their cell membrane, which results in increased uptake of osmolytes. By osmosis, water moves back into the cells and which contributes to restore cell hydration and volume.
