About the LMR Naturals compendium

Letters and Definitions

Fresh blackcurrants on a branch.

Complexity of the botanical taxonomy is recognized. Many synonyms are used to describe the same plant. Since a consensus does not exist for each and every plant, we have chosen to keep the most common name.

Olfactive description of raw material.

LMR works hand in hand with partners at source from over the world to get the highest quality of raw materials while supporting local communities.

Innovation at heart is an LMR core value. Our advanced cutting-edge technologies allow to master innovative specialties bringing olfactive uniqueness and creative differentiation to perfumers and flavorists.

  • Renewable: Renewable ingredients, defined by IFF as ingredients that contain more than 50% carbon from renewable sources.
  • Biodegradation: The biologically mediated degradation or transformation of substances usually carried out by microorganisms.

READILY BIODEGRADABLE

Ingredients classified as Readily Biodegradable have to meet the following criteria:

Ingredients measured following OECD (301-series or 310) or equivalent guidelines for screening of chemicals for ready biodegradability, achieving at least 60% (ThOD or ThCO2) or 70% (DOC) biodegradation within 28 days. The 10-day window criterion is not taken into account to conclude if an ingredient is readily biodegradable (i.e., substances fulfilling the pass level criterion within 28 days, but failing the 10-day window criterion, are considered readily biodegradable).

INHERENTLY BIODEGRADABLE

Ingredients classified as Inherently Biodegradable have to meet one of the following criteria:

Ingredients measured following OECD (301-series or 310) or equivalent guidelines for screening of chemicals for ready biodegradability, with one of the following outcomes: Pass level criterion for Readily biodegradable is almost fulfilled in the 28-day test period, i.e., ThOD (or ThCO2) reaching 58% or DOC removal reaching 68%.Pass level of 60% (ThOD or ThCO2) or 70% (DOC) biodegradation is fulfilled when incubation is extended beyond 28 days but no more than 60 days.Ingredients measured following OECD (302-series) or equivalent guidelines, with biodegradation above 70% (measured as BOD, DOC removal or COD) in test duration of no more than 60 days.

ULTIMATELY BIODEGRADABLE

Ingredients classified as Ultimately Biodegradable have to meet the following criteria:

Ingredients measured following OECD (309-series) or equivalent biodegradation simulation studies achieving a mineralization half-life of <60 days.

Supply chain certified by third party, attesting efforts put in place with our partner to offer sustainable ingredients.

Location of the supply chain, as per information available when the Compendium has been compiled. Can depend on availability.

Natural ingredients with science-based holistic wellness properties established by scientific test conduct by our R&D team.

Our ingredients can be compliant with several kind of application, Flavor, Fragrance or Cosmetics.

There can be 4 different extracts: Oil, absolute, CO2 or resinoid.

Hydrodistillation regroups 3 types of distillation: water distillation, water and steam distillation and steam distillation. Volatile solvent extraction aims to dissolve the fragrant components of the plant in a solvent, which is then evaporated. Supercritical fluid extraction (SCFE), based on the utilization of a fluid under supercritical conditions, is a technology suitable for extraction and purification of a variety of compounds, particularly those that have low volatility and/or are susceptible to thermal degradation. A resinoid is an extract obtained from a dry raw material of plant origin by extraction using at least one solvent.

Part of the plant that will be used to obtain the raw material. Examples: leaves, flowers, bark, branches, roots.

Approximative values are indicated.

Chemical molecules present in the raw material.

IPC are shown for each ingredient to ensure positive identification. Please note: some of the pages of this Compendium list a number of different IPC’s for the same generic product.

A CAS (Chemical Abstracts Service) Registry Number is a unique and unambiguous identifier for a specific substance that allows clear communication and, with the help of CAS scientists, links together all available data and research about that substance.
