IFF & CBS News present: Plant-Based at the Center of the Plate

October 10, 2022

People’s food choices are shaped by curiosity health culture and—increasingly—sustainability. As consumers’ focus on our planet’s health grows so does the demand for alternative proteins. However in a recent consumer survey conducted by IFF 70% of consumers are moving past imitations and familiar food formats in plant-based foods.

For plant-based to take off into mainstream there needs to be an expansion of the category to deliver delicious and nutritious eating experiences for each and every meal. It’s not just about replicating standards like burgers without meat and milkshakes without milk—alternative proteins need to go from everyday to exciting. That’s because consumers aren’t just looking to avoid meat or dairy. They’re expecting great eating experiences that create memorable moments. This provides a lot of opportunities to provide consumers with more options as well as for the industry to develop exciting new innovations for plant-based food.

We partnered with CBS News’ Global Thought Leaders series to share how insights-led innovation can fuel the potential of plant-based foods nourishing people and planet. IFF’s vision is to support the shift to a more plant-based diet by creating options—enabling nutritious plant-based food and beverages to be included in every meal from early-bird breakfast to midnight snacks.
